The Penmorvah Manor Hotel, formerly named Penmorvah House, comprising of the main house, six acres or land and stables and out buildings was built in 1872 from Mr WM Dymond on land previously owned by the influential Falmouth based Fox family. The house was sold to Mt LHR Kelly in 1879 and had a succession of owners and tenants until 1937 when Miss AH Row ran a nursing home from the property. Miss row’s venture only lasted a few months and the house was sold to Colonel and Mrs JD Boyd. Following the Colonel’s death in 1957 Mrs Boyd gave the house the he Church of England Children’s Society. However the society decide that the house was not suitable for a children’s home and it was sold again in 1959 to Mr and Mrs TA Kempthorne-Ley who managed the house as a country club and holiday home under the name Manderley. In 1968 Mr and Mrs David Rowe purchased the property and ran it as a night club, in 1978 Mr and Mrs Rowe sold the house and it had several owners until it was purchased by Mr and Mrs Steene who ran Penmorvah as a hotel. Mr and Mrs Challender brought the property at auction in 1988, under whose ownership Mr and Mrs Risely managed the house as and 8 bedroomed hotel. In 1991 a further 20 bedrooms were added to the hotel and in 1995 Mr and Mrs Risely purchased the hotel. The property’s outbuildings have been converted into several cottages and an office.
